HOT HORSE DIRTY SNAKE is a new large-scale performance by Atomic Vaudeville: part clown, part concert, part accidental school.
Led by a group of unruly Crones, the work unfolds as an unconventional education in timing, power, consequence, and collective life. Lessons emerge through movement, music, absurdity and interruption rather than instruction. Students arrive seeking direction; what they encounter instead is orientation to bodies, to each other, to moments that refuse to resolve on schedule.
Drawing on clown, ritual, pop culture, and ensemble-devised performance, HOT HORSE DIRTY SNAKE resists tidy narratives and heroic arcs in favour of something messier, funnier and more alive.
This is not a coming-of-age story. It’s a staying-with-it story.

“Atomic Vaudeville shows are sharp, savvy, and salacious. What a gift to a City to have such a space, one where cast and audience alike can be delighted by the absurd, the tender and the gift of reciprocity.”
At our inception in 2004, Atomic Vaudeville sought to be a voice of the city. Since then, we have
worked with more than 400 local and visiting artists, creating a network of theatre practitioners
across the country. AV is instrumental to the ongoing support and mentorship of
contemporary voices emerging from the Victoria community, having mentored and platformed
artists like JIMBO the Drag Clown (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Ingrid Hansen (Jim Henson Company
puppeteer), and Shirley Gnome (Juno Award nominee).
“So cathartic to laugh together at the absurdity of our modern lives / current political hellscape … had me howling and hooting and hollering so much I lost my dang voice!”
