My first sweep through the Fringe was very productive. I've been disappointed that it's almost entirely a comedy festival and that real plays -- as opposed to sketch comedy, stand-up, and storytelling -- are hard to find. But all the shows I saw are worth seeing and a couple are truly killers. Legoland The best show at the Fringe so far by far. A strange teenage sister-brother duo are raised on a hippie commune in Saskatch-ewan, become Catholic-school pariahs, and take a drug-fuelled road trip across America. "Legoland" is what the communards call the outside world. We get a hilarious view of it through the peculiar perspectives of these siblings. Superb script and direction by Victoria's Brian Richmond, and great performances by Celine Stubel and especially Amitai Marmorstein as the weird, Nietzsche-spouting little brother.

Legoland: Amitai Marmorstein (left) and Celine Stubel in Victoria's Atomic Vaudeville production of Jacob Richmond's play about two strange siblings on a road trip with music and puppets. It took the Victoria Fringe by storm. "Brilliantly insane" sums up the reviews.
